RWhen the Daylight Atheist, Dan, decided to surprise his wife and children by arriving on a pilot vessel two hours before their ship was due to dock in Auckland harbour, both were in for a rude shock.
As you can see, Dingbat was completely unprepared for her husband's sudden arrival.
Cathy Gribble, who plays the part of Dingbat, once lived in Southern Ireland and has based her character on women she knew there, particularly Nora.
Says Cathy, "Nora was a robust and feisty woman who only wore her false teeth on special occasions. Cooking the Sunday roast was a major undertaking. The Sunday roast was cooked to perfection — for five hours! The peas were a hazy yellow, the incinerated memory of meat had taken on the texture of string and the other unrecognisable vegetables were reduced to the consistency of glue."
Cathy believes she may have visited Ballybunion, the small town where Dingbat was living when she fatefully met Dan Moffat, her future husband.
