Powerco has sold its Wanganui depot in Taupo Quay.
The gas and electricity distribution company had entered into a sale and purchase agreement for the depot, communications manager Neil Holdom said.
He would not say who had bought the depot or when the change of ownership would take effect.
The Chronicle has earlier reported that a Mitre 10 Mega home improvement warehouse would be built on the site and adjacent vacant land.
Mitre 10's purchase of the Powerco land and buildings was conditional on gaining resource consent for the store, which has since been granted.
Wanganui Mitre 10 Home & Trade owner Jeff Gilbertson told the Chronicle this week he couldn't confirm whether Mitre 10 had purchased the Powerco site.
He referred inquires to Mitre 10's Auckland-based public relations manager, who has not returned Chronicle telephone calls.
Mr Holdom said Powerco would move to a new location in Wanganui, but it was confidential whether it already had somewhere to move to.
"The change of depot locations will not impact on Powerco's staffing in Wanganui or the services Powerco offers in the region," he said.
The Mitre 10 Mega resource consent application said the Taupo Quay substation would be subdivided off and retained by Powerco.
