With the city basking in balmy summer temperatures day after day, Hamilton's Waterworld has been operating at near capacity. And today Hamilton City Council debated the best way to address demands on the city's pool facilities.
During a special council meeting, staff delivered a report to council that detailed options to overcome Hamilton's additional demand for lane space.
As part of the draft 10 Year Plan budget, an unfunded proposal suggested covering the outdoor Lido pool at Waterworld so that it could be used to address current and projected lane space shortages, particularly in winter.
Council's general manager community Lance Vervoort said Waterworld had been "maxed out" during summer, with families and children flocking to the complex in droves.
Mr Vervoort said Waterworld's outdoor Lido pool could be covered with a roof and be fitted with sides that remain down during winter and could be raised during summer.
