More than 250 people took advantage of a driver safety stop at Ngahinapouri last Sunday night.
Fighting fatigue was the aim of the Waipa District Council roadside stop, which offered drinks and something to eat.
Once a year for the past seven years the communities of Te Kowhai, Pirongia and Ngahinapouri have assisted Waipa and Waikato District Councils in helping combat driver fatigue on State Highway 39 as mountain-bound motorists head home from the snow.
Road safety co-ordinator Megan Jolly says the community buy-in has been tremendous.
"This year was no exception, with three schools on three different days offering refreshments and spreading the 'not driving tired', 'take a break' and 'have a power nap if tired' messages.
