To celebrate the launch of the new Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch, Samsung has partnered with leading New Zealand fashion label Stolen Girlfriends Club to release an exclusive capsule collection of four customised leather watchstraps.
The Gear S2 matches the latest wearable technology with the classic styling of a traditional timepiece. Wanting to celebrate this breakthrough in smartwatch design, Samsung NZ called up Stolen Girlfriends Club – known for their creativity and innovation in the fashion space – to create a special accessory for Kiwi Samsung fans.
Marc Moore, creative director of Stolen Girlfriends Club, led the design for this collaboration, adding a layer of edge to the watch's sleek design. Inspired by vintage timepieces, the bespoke collection is handmade in New Zealand and crafted by Stolen's team of artisans. Viva reveals the top five insights into what makes the Stolen x Samsung collaboration tick, with Marc Moore:
1. Why Samsung?
Everything they do is amazing, from their TVs (which are next level) to their mobile phones (have you seen the cameras on those things?!), right through to their support of the World Surfing League.
2. My inspiration
I went with a vintage feel, because the watch is very futuristic looking, I wanted to soften it a touch to give it more of a fashion-focus. Leather, meanwhile, keeps it luxe.
3. Fashion future of smartwatches
I was a little skeptical about the whole 'wearable-tech' thing, but since using the Gear S2 watch I've completely changed my mind. I think there is a place for these watches, as long as you're utilising the features and as long as they look cool. When I researched the watches online a common complaint with some of the older models from all brands was that the watches were a bit 'tech' looking. They're only going to get better, and cooler aesthetically.
4. Every Stolen fan needs to know
You can have whatever image you like as the watch face, so cool! Or you can get an app that enables you to download most brands' watch faces if you're after something slick.
5. Marc's tick of approval
Well apart from it telling me the time, which is really handy, I love some of the 'health' features. Measuring my steps throughout the day to ensure I'm getting enough exercise is so good. Yesterday I was sitting on the couch for most of the day watching movies, my watch vibrated and told me I'd been inactive for quite a while and perhaps it was time for a walk. Haha! Love it. The angel on my shoulder.
