A Night Out With Kathryn Wilson

Hidden hotspots and exclusive locales were on the itinerary when footwear designer Kathryn Wilson and her sales and design manager Julia Ford (and designer of diffusion brand Miss Wilson) had a celebratory night out in Hong Kong recently.  Armed with the new Galaxy S7, Kathryn captured her night out using only her phone camera to share with Viva.

The designers were there to check on production of their latest luxury collections, and could not resist a spot of cocktail sampling at some of Kathryn's favourite venues.

Although she has been visiting Hong Kong twice a year for more than a decade, Kathryn never tires of the vibrant city, and is now a veritable tour guide of hard-to-find bars and restaurants, having been shown around by friends and business contacts on previous visits.

“It's such an easy city to get around,” she says. “When you're with a local it's so much more fun, as they usually go to cooler spots than what is on the main street.”

Following a day of meetings, the first stop on the cocktail trail was the stylish Aqua Bar. On the 29th floor of a Peking Rd skyscraper, Aqua Bar is renowned for its delicious drinks, and impressive views over the harbour. "Hong Kong at night is amazing. I love how I was able to capture the city lights, with just my phone. The camera on the GS7 was made for taking late night shots!"

After a couple of martinis, a taxi under the harbour to Hong Kong Island took the pair to Sevva in the Prince's Building. The celebrated restaurant is booked out months in advance, and although prices are astronomical, Kathryn says the setting, service and food are worth the bill. “It's really theatrical with breath-taking design.”

The restaurant's decor has inspired the Kathryn Wilson team in the past, particularly the gorgeous floral roof installation. After a delicious meal of duck and melon salad and masala dosas, they enjoyed chocolate and espresso martinis on the deck, a favourite spot for Central workers.

“Because it's up so high you get such a cool view, you're right in the middle of central Hong Kong. It’s the perfect spot for photo opportunities and this far surpassed our expectations!”

At the end of the percussion band's set, Kathryn and Julia headed to Hollywood Rd. They stopped for dessert at Mama San, then headed to Le Boudoir. Here, they stumbled upon a birthday party for the barman, and decided it would have been rude not to help him finish his cake.

Next, the world's longest escalator took them towards Soho, where they called into Feather Boa. Kathryn was introduced to the exclusive bar on her last visit. The antique-filled lounge, with no signage and heavy velvet drapes on entry, is managed by a grumpy sweatpant-clad Madam, and is famous for decadent daiquiris served in oversized chocolate-coated glasses.

As their night drew to a close, Kathryn took Julia past Dragon-i for a peek at the Hong Kong celeb scene. Paris Hilton was arriving to DJ for the night, and after a quick snap on the GS7, they headed to Sohofama on Aberdeen St. Here, the pair wound down their exotic night out before heading back to the hotel – a clean-living nod to the morning of meetings ahead.
