PUFF POWER
The ubiquitous puffer jacket trend has reached its zenith this season, with designers such as Dries Van Noten, Dior Homme (pictured) and Raf Simons all offering renditions. Locally, match your everyday wear with a functional option from brands such as Icebreaker, Kathmandu and Macpac.
HOLD UP
If your trusty belt is starting to get a little rough around the edges, update with this Italian-made leather number that will get only better with wear. Rodd & Gunn belt $79.
RED ALERT
Take a leaf out of Balenciaga's book and try out a bright red tie. The French fashion house made a case by pairing it with a powder blue shirt at their Fall 2017 menswear show. Working Style tie $129.
AROMATIC UPDATE
Notes of oud and tobacco are showing up strongly in new men's fragrances. Tom Ford has the bases covered in a capsule Private Blends collection based around oud, a resinous wood prized in the Middle East, where it is used in incense and perfumery. Tom Ford Tobacco Oud 50ml cologne, $370, from Smith & Caughey's, Queen St.
THE DENIM DREAM
Off the back of the US election — and largely thanks to Raf Simons first show as chief creative officer of Calvin Klein (above) — reworked Americana in the form of stars, stripes and utilitarian denim is making a strong comeback as designers question the current state of politics.
PLUSH APPEAL
Not for the faint-hearted, velvet is one of the trickier trends of the season given it's traditionally reserved for womenswear. Zambesi mixes the fabric with ease by layering up their forest green sportswear pieces with a puffer vest, hitting stores mid-March. Zambesi hoodie, $350, track pants, $350, and puffer vest, $530.
MARCH ON
Although camo worn beyond the bush is nothing new, what about going full commando and doubling up on the print? Models at Louis Vuitton Fall 2017 menswear wore head-to-toe denim camo in the form of a button-up jacket and jeans. Workshop jacket, $549, and workshirt (worn underneath) $279.
