We have high hopes for Teddy’s, which has just opened its doors on Ponsonby Rd, filling the space where MooChowChow once was.
Co-owner Oliver Scutts, who's also behind Annabel's in Three Lamps, says the idea is to offer an unpretentious and uncomplicated space to enjoy lunch, dinner, or some after-work bites alongside an interesting mix of drinks.
He and business partner Rob Hill are friends with MooChowChow’s owner Mark Wallbank and say they “jumped at the chance” to realise a project they’d been thinking about for a few years.
“The menu’s designed to be simple and has classic dishes with an interesting take on classic and nutritious food,” explains Oliver.
Duck liver parfait, steak tartare with quail yolk, and venison fillet with fregola and juniper red wine have things feeling a little fancy pants to us, but there are also shoestring fries, simple sides of vegetables and deep-fried apple pie to bring the menu down to earth.
Oliver expects dishes such as the steak frites and chicken schnitzel to be crowd favourites (never fear: they’ve also made sure vegetarians are well catered for) and is keen to adjust the menu depending on what proves most popular, always using the freshest ingredients that they can.
Oliver says they’ve opened up the space to let more light and redesigned the restaurant to make the bar more of a star.

Advertise with NZME.They even have a tequila expert on board to dream up cocktails based on the spirit and are serving their own take on an Aperol spritz, made with limoncello, while Dr Rudi’s is on tap and New Zealand wines are plentiful.
Teddy’s is keen to become a new favourite for anyone in the market for parfait, a pint, or even better both.
