The Tasting Shed, 609 SH 16, Kumeu
This place has a reputation for great food and an excellent drinks list, with beautiful outdoor spaces, fresh air and friendly staff. You'll go for an afternoon drink or two in the sun but we bet you'll have a hard time leaving the food menu alone — offering dishes from the land, earth and sea.
Seafarers, 52 Tyler St, Britomart
The rooftop bar at Seafarers is quickly becoming a go-to for A-listers, although you need a membership or to go with someone who does to enjoy the locale. Try the menu designed by Michelin-starred chef Josh Emett and extensive wine and cocktail list, with expansive views of the Waitemata harbour.
Tyler St Garage,116-118 Quay St, Britomart
This industrial-style bar is a perfect alternative to those who aren't a Seafarers member. Go straight up to the north-facing rooftop, which has sprawling views of the harbour, delicious shared plates, cosy couches and friendly staff.
The Conservatory, 1-17 Jellicoe St, Wynyard Quarter
If you're wandering home from work through the viaduct, be sure to pop in to The Conservatory and grab a refreshing green tea margarita and unwind in one of the hanging chairs to enjoy the afternoon sea breeze.
TomTom, 27 Drake St, Auckland CBD
The newly refurbished TomTom is perfect for enjoying an after work tipple — with views of Victoria Park, friendly atmosphere and a lengthy wine list to match. It'd be rude not to get a tasting plate while you're there, with hot smoked salmon, grilled prawns, prosciutto and goat feta.
The Matakana, 11 Matakana Valley Rd, Matakana
Bask in the sun while you sip craft beer, nibble on fresh local produce (don't miss the Mahurangi Oysters grilled in the shell) and snuggle up next to one of the outdoor fires as the weather begins to cool in the evening.
46 & York, 46 Parnell Rd, Parnell
Nestled in one of Parnell's most historic buildings, this unpretentious gem is hidden away from the bustle of the inner city but is only a stone's throw away from the CBD. As well as an extensive wine list, there's an impressive choice of cocktails, as well as plenty of plates to nibble on.
Piha Cafe, 20 Seaview Road, Piha
Walk straight off the beach, park yourself on the sun-soaked deck and tuck into one of the Piha Cafe's pizzas made with organic ingredients (our favourite is topped with Moroccan lamb, spinach, capsicum, feta and olives) washed down with something chilled from the wine or beer list.
