Slip dress from Organic By John Patrick
A silky slip dress is the must-have garment of the season. Brands like Galvan London, which has teamed up with Opening Ceremony on a range, and Paris Georgia basics from The Mercantile, have created timeless bias-cut slip dresses that deserve a spot in your wardrobe. We're particularly into Organic By John Patrick, stocked in Auckland at Fabric and also available online.

'Dad hat' from Modern Manners
The unassuming cap has been coined the "dad hat", and become a stylish must-have worn by everyone from Rihanna to Drake. The criteria? No flat brims. What's cool right now are cotton baseball-style caps with a slightly arched peak, ideally with a strap back (although the retro-style snapback is also acceptable). Over summer, styles from local label Modern Manners and Parlour Store were popular, as well as classics such as Polo Ralph Lauren. Dig one out from the bottom of your closet, invest, or borrow one from your dad.

Swimsuit from Zulu and Zephyr
Aussies know how to do swimwear really well. And Zulu and Zephyr are particularly good at making swimsuits, in a vast range of fabrics and styles. Purchase from their online store.

Bag from Paula Cademartori
You might not recognise the name, but you ought to recognise Italian-Brazilian Paula Cademartori's luxurious and playful bags thanks to their street style and Instagram appeal. Loved by everyone from The Man Repeller Leandra Medine, Miroslava Duma and Anna Dello Russo, these colourful, made-in-Italy handbags are available online at Net-a-Porter.com

Top from Isa Arfen
Isa Arfen's colourful, cotton off-the-shoulder tops and dresses have become Instagram favourites, worn and shared by It Girls like Alexa Chung, Poppy Delevingne, Man Repeller Leandra Medine and fashion editor Pandora Sykes. Get your hands on a statement piece from this London-based brand online through Opening Ceremony's website.

Party dress from Realisation Par
On New Year's Eve in Miami, Alexa Chung shared a snap of herself wearing a 90s-esque white silk, shoestring dress from new it-label Realisation Par. She's not the only one, with a slew of hot young things wearing pieces and modelling for the brand, which launched at the end of 2015 and translates from French as "Made by". The duo behind it are Alexandra Spencer, a New York-based Aussie model and blogger for 4thandBleeker, and friend Teale Talbot, formerly of Australian brand Friend of Mine. Their pieces are available through their website, and they ship worldwide - and add new items frequently, rather than releasing collections.
