What to wear to Lady Gaga’s 30th birthday party? If you’re Taylor Swift, you choose New Zealand fashion.
The singer wore a silk-based sequin T-shirt and matching pants by fashion designer Juliette Hogan to celebrate with Gaga at the No Name club in West Hollywood, tucking the T-shirt in for a fancy update of the casual tracksuit. Both are from the winter collection, and available online.
The Auckland-based designer was having lunch at her family holiday home at Woolleys Bay in Northland when she heard the news earlier today, and was unsurprisingly thrilled. “I’m so happy; it’s just wonderful that all the hard work is paying off.”
Juliette explained that Taylor got her hands on the pieces through Los Angeles-based Australian stylist Annabelle Harron, who she met through NZ actress and long-time Juliette Hogan fan Rose McIver.
Taylor’s stylists had been in touch with Annabelle a few weeks ago to request select items from Juliette’s winter collection (so there’s a chance the singer may wear something else).
“It wasn’t completely out of nowhere,” explains Juliette, “but we had no idea if Taylor would have liked them or even wear them. At that point I was just excited that she was being made aware of my label.”
Juliette plans to expand into the Los Angeles market with a focus on occasion dressing, so this is a coup for the designer. She will visit in about three weeks to host an event to showcase and introduce her designs to stylists and the industry. “It’s absolutely phenomenal timing [with Taylor].”
It's another Kiwi connection for the superstar, who attended Lady Gaga's bash with Lorde and filmed the video for Out of the Woods last year in New Zealand.
