Stella McCartney's new sportswear line

Walk down Ponsonby Rd and you can't miss it: women in activewear happily going from gym to street, treadmill to cafe in leggings and sneakers - the modern urban uniform.

Stella McCartney's line for adidas has been championing this attitude for 10 years with its focus on function and fashion. This month the designer expands the offering with StellaSport, a collection of sportswear targeting the younger market. Think bold poppy colours and prints at more affordable prices, so you can look good while making good on those new year, new you promises.

Expect the sportswear trend to get even bigger this year, after last year's athleisure obsession (workout clothes made for doing anything but).

This year it will, apparently, evolve into "health goth" - high-performance sportswear with a penchant for black - and will also see Beyonce release a sports line for Topshop. We wouldn't go so far as Nike CEO Mark Parker in declaring leggings as the new denim (denim will be big news this year, too), but this sector is set to get even bigger.

Time to get moving!
