We've been equally curious and besotted by the wave of luxury brands setting up shop in recent months, offering an international complement to our dedicated local designers and retailers.

The latest opening is Gucci's second New Zealand boutique, now open for business at Westfield Newmarket's luxury precinct located on level one's 'lifestyle centre.'

A stone's throw away from Burberry and Balenciaga, the new boutique measures 305 square metres, with an elegant fit-out framed by a distinctive black and white windowpane floor offset by a mosaic timber floor, along with a dramatic high corniced ceiling.

It's the perfect backdrop for artistic director Alessandro Michele's eclectic approach to Gucci's extensive offering of ready-to-wear, handbags, shoes, jewellery and accessories, children’s collection, Gucci Decor and recently launched Gucci Lifestyle collection.

Scentre Group, the ASX-listed company which owns 51 per cent of the Auckland property at Westfield Newmarket, says the introduction of its luxury offering showcases the strength of the local customer base, with the local market having a particular taste for Gucci's varied and diverse product offering.

Encompassing Michele's love of sumptuous design, his unique magpie perspective can be felt at the new store, which is the brand's second after its flagship space at 48 Queen Street.

Decorated with velvet armchairs, vintage rugs and lush tropical plants, contrasting merchandising elements have been used to inspire curiosity and tell the story of the brand's widely praised approach to colour and print, with cream and pink hues of Breccia Oniciata marble coverings complementing the interiors.

In keeping with the brand's commitment to eco-friendly initiatives and energy-efficient technologies in the House’s stores worldwide, the new store is LEED-certified using LED lighting and is equipped with a Building Management System to monitor and promote energy efficiency.
