Karen Walker has teamed up again with the United Nations International Trade Centre’s Ethical Fashion Initiative — this time creating colourful screen-printed canvas clutches, totes and purses with a “hiding cat” image like the one featured in her recent resort collection.
Karen worked with the same Kenyan artisans who made beaded and screen-printed pouches and posed as models in her Visible eyewear campaign last year.
She says her next range will involve the same team, but she plans to work with artisans in other regions later in the year.
“The EFI works with 7000 artisans so it’s quite a large team... they have lots of different skills available to designers.”
She says she works with EFI because she shares their vision of using fashion as a vehicle out of poverty.
