What? Handknits from Harriet Were, who can knit herself, but works with three knitters in Auckland and in the South Island to create her sweaters. Our pick is the teapot sweater ($470), worn here by Marilyn Sainty, based on an original drawing by Harriet's boyfriend Felix Henning-Tapley.
Who? Harriet is one of a new generation of creatives helping to shape a local, natural and handmade New Zealand aesthetic, inspired partly by the likes of Marilyn and Katie Lockhart. She has worked with Lockhart on photographs for Home magazine, and also shoots Lonely Hearts' Lonely Girls Project and small projects for Scotties. Harriet's twin sister Carter, pictured here in a homespun, naturally dyed vest, is behind Were Bros bread, sold through Grey Lynn's Muck Floral and Store; the pair are close with owner, florist Sophie Wolanski.
Where? This week Harriet is set to open an online store, making it easier to get your hands on her lovely handknits head to harrywere.com.
