Off-duty ballerina meets Jane Birkin was the “yes we can see it” inspiration for Ruby’s beauty look at Fashion Week. Love that long fringe and the lilac lips.

Hair, using clip in bangs, was by New Zealand Hairdresser of the Year Michael Beel, from Wellington salon Bouy. Along with ghd ambassador Sara Allsop, he used the company’s hair tools to achieve relaxed waves, personalised to suit each model’s hair.

The makeup was directed by Samantha Holley for M.A.C, whose trick of “pastelising” lipstick by mixing it with white lip mix is one worth trying. She took a purple shade down to offbeat lilac prettiness.

Here’s our summary of the makeup rundown. Ensure skin is well hydrated and work in an illuminating base. Lightly apply foundation and concealer to perfect skin, followed by a little light bronzing and a creamy highlighter. Blend a golden cream on eyelids and a slightly darker neutral shade in the crease and outer corner, with a little glitter shadow pressed onto lids to finish. Condition lips before applying your chosen pastelised colour.

The key M.A.C products Holley and her team used were: Face: Prep + Prime Essential Oils and Strobe Cream massaged into skin with 190 Foundation Brush. Mineralize Moisture SPF 15 Foundation and Studio Finish Concealer for perfected, creamy skin. Golden Prep + Prime BB Beauty Balm Compact SPF 30 to bronze.

Bamboo Cream Colour Base applied to cheek with Pearl Cream Colour Base as a highlight. Eyes: Vintage Selection Pro Longwear Paint Pot buffed onto the eyelid using a 217 Blending Brush. Bamboo Cream Colour Base buffed through the crease and outer corners of the eye . All that Glitters Eye Shadow pressed on to lid. Clear Brow Set. Lips: Lip Conditioner. Up the Amp Lipstick mixed with White Lipmix to create soft lavender colour.
