This stunning table design at a recent Waiheke wedding was inspired by the couple’s love of a long lunch, with the wedding party seated at two long tables. The idea was to complement the rustic, Tuscan vibe of the venue, says wedding stylist Erin Lovich from Wonder. “We placed long pine runners down the table to anchor the flowers and tie into the outdoor and rustic nature of the venue but in a contemporary and simplistic way,” she says.
“Flowers were a mix of blooms but grouped together and all white combined with a vast amount of greenery and foliage. Cut crystal glassware and gold cutlery added elegance and sophistication and we used full length white tablecloths for a more formal look.
“Charger plates are such a great item to use to really complete a table setting. We used clear glass beaded chargers and placed white linen napkins on top which had been screenprinted with the menu and wine list. Place names were hand-written on grey card and slipped into crystal name card holders which worked in with the various types of clear glass we had on the tables and also added a personal touch — handwriting is becoming a lost art in this day and age.”
Small details never go unnoticed, says Erin, but it’s important to make sure these details are practical and have a place and a use.
“I tell most of my couples to skip on favours and incorporate handy items into their day — a guest will love you more for saving their feet at the end of a long day with a pair of jandals than they will appreciate a chocolate or macaron at their place setting.”

• Pashminas draped across the back of guests chairs for later in the evening
• Menus printed with guests' names on the top for a personal feel
• A basket of jandals next to the dance floor for sore feet
• A basket of essential items on the bar: suncream, insect repellent
• Hang-over packs to take home at the end of the night.
