It’s called The House, an opulent salon in London’s Mayfair and the only place in the world where you can purchase — or commission — Jessica McCormack’s fine diamond jewels. The New Zealander opened the by-appointment-only space in 2013, outfitting the five-storey Victorian townhouse with an eclectic array of objects to complement the cabinets of her jewellery.

“Our house is a curated space for people to experience the slow and elegant world of luxury, diamonds and art through my eyes and inspirations.”

Christchurch-born McCormack moved to London in 2005 to do a short internship in the jewellery department of auction house Sotheby's — inspiring her to create her own jewellery with a London-based team. She has become known for melding vintage and modern elements — from classic diamond engagement rings to a diamond septum ring — worn by the likes of Carey Mulligan, Cressida Bonas and Rihanna.

I love the history of London and the glamorous old world mixed with the culture and buzz of the modern and ever changing new."

London is integral to my business. We are a London, Mayfair brand even though our clients are global. They are constantly travelling through London, which makes it a vital hub for me. London inspires me on a daily basis and it is a never-ending centre of surprises and discoveries.

It's competitive here, so you have to be genuine, stay true to your heart and work very very hard.

I live in Kensal Rise, the same street I lived on when I first came to London 10 years ago. I have lived all over London and ended up back here again — by coincidence or by fate.

JESSICA'S LONDON FAVOURITES

1. Merchant Archive. In my mind this is the perfect mix of vintage and contemporary. I practically live in Merchant Archive's own label clothing — it's super ladylike with subtle edge and the fabrics are sumptuous. I've pre-ordered the entire next season's collection.

2. Scott's. A little decadent for a local but it's a 40 second walk from work, even in heels, and has the best Dover sole in town.

3. Provenance Village Butcher. I don't believe in skimping on meat — I'd rather not eat it. This slick Notting Hill butcher has the most beautiful meat around, sourced from sustainable, family run farms. They have a mean selection of pickles and sauces, too.

4. The Courtauld Gallery. I've whiled away many an afternoon perusing this beautiful art collection housed in one of the finest small museums in the world based in fabulous Somerset House.

5. Peter Petrou. He helps me source and buy the most incredible objects from around the world, like a set of Zulu ear plugs on stands. He has an eye for things that are not only beautiful but with strong historical and anthropological personality.
