5. Visit well-known contemporary jeweller Warwick Freeman's new exhibition Just Monkeys. However, don't expect jewellery as the focus is on household objects – think door handles, candle holders, paper weights and book ends, created out of unusual materials such as petrified lava flows, pig tusks, marble, stone, basalt and tin.

9. Our tummies are rumbling in anticipation of this weekend's Otahuhu Ethnic Food Festival. The Saturday event will feature music from the likes of Che Fu, Onehunga hip-hop crew SWIDT and DJ Sir-Vere, and more than 100 stalls, ranging from keke pua'a (pork buns) from local heroes Pinati's to Wise Boy Burgers' vegan burgers and fries.

One of our favourite annual events, ArtDego, celebrates its fifth birthday at Auckland Art Gallery on Sunday, with the likes of Dariush Lolaiy, Hayden McMillan and Kyle Street pairing with some of our top artists including Ronnie van Hout and Sarah Smuts-Kennedy to create a five-course food and art experience.
