The promise: For anyone interested in giving their scalp some TLC, this treatment promises to refresh and revitalise your scalp by removing dead skin cells and product build-up and stimulating blood flow.

The practice: This scalp-renewing treatment is offered at Auckland's award-winning hair salon French Revolver and the in-salon dermabrasion three-step treatment uses the Wella scalp system range, which includes BHA and AHA good to hydrate and remove dull skin from your scalp.

Creative stylist Chandra Reed began the process with a mask and scalp massage that extended to the base of my neck. The mask was left in my hair for 10 minutes, followed by exfoliation and another massage.

A scalp therapy revitalising conditioner with caffeine and peppermint ends the treatment.

After the basin, Chandra blowdried and styled my hair back to life.

The place: French Revolver Studio, Level 1, 139-141 Victoria St West, Auckland. See Frenchrevolver.com.

The price: $49. There is another treatment known as the SP Alchemy Treatment for $69.

The verdict: This is a great idea for busy people and the head massage alone is super-relaxing. This dermabrasion treatment is recommended every 30-45 days and is a small price to pay to keep your scalp and hair in check. It's suited to anyone who has product build-up on their scalp, has a dry, itchy scalp, or if you have fine/ thinning hair.
