It’s a case of life imitating art for fashion designer Pia Naera-Scott.

Her personality is visible amongst the hordes of sequins, frills, ruffles and larger-than-life patterns for which her eponymous label is known for. Every season, the 27-year-old reinvents her brand once again to keep up with the changing nature of fashion trends in New Zealand, but each time maintaining that same unique 'PIA' aesthetic.

Cult styles sell out in a matter of days thanks to Pia’s highly engaged, 20,000-strong Instagram audience. We chat to the designer about the evolution of both her brand and her beauty look.

Early makeup memories
I grew up in a family that loved the performing arts and started dancing when I was five years old. My mum and two older sisters used to fuss over me while I got ready for every show, making sure my winged eyeliner was on point while my eyes would be watering like crazy.

Describe your beauty ethos?
Less is always more. I try not to wear too much makeup, and I love showing off my freckles across my nose. I only wear enough makeup to look like I haven't just rolled out of bed!

Skincare routine
My day starts and finishes with cleansing and moisturising my face. I never sleep in my makeup if I can avoid it; it's so bad for your skin!

Quick fix
If I'm in a massive rush, I'll do a super quick five-minute beauty look. I start by applying foundation as my base, and covering up any dark circles or imperfections with a touch of concealer. Then it's on to bronzer and highlighter, followed by quickly brushing my brows and applying mascara. Unfortunately my eyelids miss out for the day.

Five favourite products
1. L'Oréal Brow Artist Genius Kit. This handy all-in-one kit means my brows are always look full and fresh, whether I'm rushing out to a meeting or off for dinner with my husband.
2. Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation. I love the consistency and finish of this product, as it helps keep my skin dewy and delicious during those chilly winter months.
3. Benefit Cosmetics Watt's Up! Cream Highlighter. Not only is the packaging super cute, but the cream-to-powder texture creates the ultimate glowy look.
4. Ashley & Co. Lip Punch. This handbag hero prevents my lips from getting chapped while I'm out walking my dogs. It's super moisturising and leaves lips with a glossy sheen.
5. Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eye Shadow Palette. There's a reason why this palette almost broke the internet, it's perfect for creating a rose gold smoky eye and other looks throughout the week.

Hair and its care
Now that I'm back to blonde, I'm really conscious of applying a hair treatment at least once per week. Olaplex Hair Treatment has been a godsend! I heat style my hair often, so I make sure I apply Matrix's Heat Protector to my mid-lengths and ends while my tools heat up. Depending on how much time I have in the morning, I'll either curl my hair using my Muc Hair Curler, otherwise I'll wear it out and loose or tied up in a low bun. Long hair problems!

Last beauty buy
I just got my hands on Benefit Cosmetics' 'They're Real' Mascara. It's the #1 mascara in the world, ladies!

Beauty is…?
Being content in your own skin, with or without makeup. Makeup is just a bonus!
