Beauty brands cotton on to the newest social media craze, BeReal

There’s a new social media platform in town, one which signifies the shift away from the all-too-perfect, hyper-curated feed and highly filtered selfies. Originating out of France, BeReal gives users a two-minute window in which to post two photos  one taken with a front-facing camera and one with the regular camera  with an alert issued once a day.

Unlike other platforms which are populated and updated by the second, BeReal won’t allow users to see their friends' posts unless they themselves have posted. Building on the same kind of realness and rawness promised by TikTok, a number of beauty brands have cemented their place as early adopters of the platform, including K18, E.l.f and Inn Beauty.

It’s fast becoming an avenue to tease new product launches, issue exclusive discount codes or gifts and share a behind-the-scenes look at the new product development process. Watch this space.

Get ready for your new favourite period costume drama remake

It seems old ideas are new ideas lately, and the most recent adaptation to add to your radar is an eight-part series remake of Pierre Choderlos de Laclos's 1782 novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses (Dangerous Liaisons). The tale follows two narcissistic young lovers turned rivals in pre-Revolutionary France, who are ambitious in their manipulation tactics in their quest for power, and will star Alice Englert and Nicholas Denton as the central lovers.

The plot line was also the basis for a 1988 film adaptation starring Glenn Close and John Malkovich in the titular roles, and the inspiration behind the contemporary update in the 1999 film Cruel Intentions, with Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe as wealthy high school teenagers in New York City.

Like many period shows right now, the premise is promised to be a contemporary take on the original, with series creator Harriet Warner explaining the show's timely depiction of a young woman navigating a man's world and a very divided society between rich and poor, will resonate with the times. Keep a look out for the sumptuous 18th-century costumes. Dangerous Liaisons will launch on Starz on November 6, with a streaming service for New Zealand to be announced.

Makeup look we love: Beyonce’s silver winged eyeliner

When it comes to envelope-pushing beauty looks, Beyonce always delivers. It's been little over three weeks since the songstress released her seventh studio album, Renaissance, which brought with it a plethora of glamorous makeup looks to reflect the album's Studio 54 vibes.

One we’re hoping to recreate in a hurry is this slick of metallic silver eyeliner, which was paired with cut crease eyeshadow, ultra-fluffy lashes and a bronzed, glossy lip. It’s just one of the many dancefloor chic beauty looks she’s revealed along the way, another of which saw her atop a horse with long, crimped hair and a poppy red lip (Lady Godiva, anyone?).

Now to recreate the look ourselves this week while blasting Cuff It.
