On music’s biggest night, these beauty looks were a major slay.
If you’re still not over Miley Cyrus’ gravity-defying bouffant from last year’s Grammys, then it’s likely you were hyper-fixated on every boundary-pushing beauty look that graced this year’s red carpet, too.
Layered lip combinations and statement eye
While some artists were drawn to the drama — think queen of camp Chappell Roan who coupled ultra-thin brows with porcelain skin and jolts of high-saturation colour — others kept their risk-taking slightly more subtle, a la Sabrina Carpenter’s loose up-do which was a gentle pivot from her usual bouncy blowout.
For hair, voluminous waves, structured braids and rich coffee colours proved particular popular, with a flurry of these show-stopping looks easily replicated from home when armed with a handful of hairstyling heroes.
Below, we chart the eight scene-stealing beauty trends to surface from this year’s Grammys, plus our picks of products to make each look your own.
Triple Layered Lips
It’s the lip trend that’s not going anywhere, but 90s nudes got a worthy update at the Grammys with multiple artists opting for pouts that featured a dark lip liner with a light pinky-nude centre, with a touch of gloss on top.
Hailey Bieber is often the one credited with pioneering latte-inspired lip looks, but here Sabrina Carpenter made the look her own.

Advertise with NZME.The six-time nominee worked with celebrity makeup artist Carolina Gonzalez who used makeup by Armani Beauty and Prada Beauty to achieve her Old Hollywood glam. The brief? “Baby angel with a touch of romance”, the makeup artist shared in a post on her Instagram.
Fellow Grammy Award-nominee Willow Smith paired her centre-parted afro with sultry ombré lips, created by makeup artist Ernesto Casillas for Dior Beauty. The ultra-dramatic effect channelled 80s icons such as Grace Jones, who was known for her shape-shifting makeup looks.
Try the trend: What better products to use than the exact shades Gonzalez used on the Please Please Please singer herself? Apply Prada Monochrome Soft Matte Lipstick in the shade B101 Tiepolo, $89, as you would a lip liner (the key here is to be liberal to create a thicker border), go in with B11 Alabaster in the centre of your lips and add a swipe of Prada Blushing Care Lip Balm in the shade U001 Astral Pink, $89, on top.
Cherry Bomb
Earlier this year, we invited eight beauty and wellness experts to share their beauty trend predictions for 2025, one of which was cherry red makeup. Turns out, our experts were on the money with multiple stars stepping out donning lips dressed in cherry shades.
The shade has long been Taylor Swift’s signature, paired here with another time-honoured staple: a black winged liner. A timely reminder, then, that while the Grammys often act as a fashion and beauty playground, the classics will always have their place.
Cherry red was the overarching theme for Taylor’s entire ensemble, which included a sparkly Vivienne Westwood mini and embellished chain “T” in homage to her boyfriend, Chiefs tight-end Travis Kelce, plus a co-ordinating crimson manicure.

Advertise with NZME.Alicia Keys was similarly in-step with a cherry coded lip, which heaped on the drama when paired with an elaborate headpiece which doubled as earrings.
We predict cherry hues will continue to reign throughout 2025, with lacquered lips and ruby red manicures on high rotation.
Try the trend: Consider Taylor’s rumoured go-to shade — Pat McGrath labs Liquilust Legendary Wear Matte Lipstick in the shade Elson 4, $74 (currently sold-out but keep your eyes peeled for a restock).
Smokeshow Liner
Bold lips aside, smoked out eyeliner came to the fore, with Gracie Abrams, Charli XCX and Cardi B stunning with a blurred out take on classic fox eye.
Gracie Abrams’ take saw black liner hug her lower waterline, which was diffused slightly in the corners to create a soft flick towards her temples.
While smokey liner can often lean towards messy or undone, Gracie’s was quite the opposite. Hers was a look that didn’t appear too grungy when paired with the diaphanous custom Chanel veil she wore overhead, complemented by a sleek bob created by hairstylist Bobby Eliot.
Trust seven-time nominee Charli XCX to step out in a makeup look that verged on brat. Makeup artist Nina Park created a slept-in smokey liner using monochromatic shades of taupe and toffee.
A fresh and luminous base allowed the 365 singer’s natural skin to shine through, coupled with softly smokey-out eyes to add the perfect balance of intensity.
Fluffy, brushed-up brows and Valentino Beauty nude, sculpted lips were the finishing touches on this wholly wearable red carpet look. “Lived-in, gothic curls” created by hairstylist Bryce Scarlett brought together the entire vibe with ease.
Try the trend: Look out for liners that are easy to smudge when wet, but promise longevity once dry. Consider the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil, $45, which is ultra-blendable upon application, but will last all day (and all night) once set. Or reach for the Stila Stay All Day Smudge & Set Waterproof Gel Eye Liner, $43, which can be used to tight-line, smudge or blend till your heart’s content.
Era Of Adornment
Always one to play by her own rules, it’s hard to pin down exactly what we love most about Chappell Roan’s red carpet look: from her copper-toned Bellami hair extensions courtesy of hairstylist Dom Forletta, through to her downturned eye makeup, burgundy lips, gilt nail extensions or pencil-thin brows.
References were equally hard to place — was Chappell channelling a turn-of-the-century silent film starlet, can-can dancer from the Moulin Rouge or drag queen? Whatever the inspiration, Chappell’s look was a visual feast earning her the title of donning one of the most memorable beauty looks of the night.
Other red carpet stand-outs for their “more is more” approach including singer-songwriter Sierra Ferrell who was sporting face gems and an intricate beaded headpiece as she stepped on stage to receive a whopping four Grammy Awards, while Best New Artist nominee Raye accessorised razor-sharp eyeliner with fluttery, sequinned eyelash extensions.
Try the trend: Dreamed up by Euphoria makeup artist Donni Davy, the Half Magic Face Gems in Iridescent Sparkle, $23, are self-adhesive — meaning you can side-step lash glue and add a little shimmer to any beauty look without the mess or fuss.
Maximalist Manis
If you’ve spent any time on TikTok lately, then it’s likely you’ve seen Wicked star Cynthia Erivo conducting press interviews while clacking together her XXL nails decorated with all manner of intricate designs.
The Grammys were no different, with Cynthia working with nail technician Mycha Dior using O.P.I nail polish to create otherworldly designs which pointed to trending styles like aura, French tip and chrome.
Each nail was decorated with gems ranging in size and shape, reflecting the same level of sparkle as her shimmering cuffs and stacked earrings.
Cardi B echoed the maximalist manicure trend with her sculptural, two-toned take by nail artist Coca Michelle for O.P.I — a gradient of pinky-purple set against an exaggerated black French tip. Each stiletto-shaped nail featured a half-moon cut-out in either side, further adding to the drama.
Try the trend: Unleash your inner witch with one of O.P.I’s themed nail lacquers, like the glitter-flecked black of Deflying Gravity, $22.
Jellyfish Cut
Miley Cyrus’ hair-raising bouffant from last year was always going to be a hard act to follow, but the pop singer backed it up with this on-trend jellyfish cut, styled by Bob Recine for Nexxus.
The sea animal-themed hairstyle is a hybrid of the mullet and bowl cut, characterised by short, choppy face-framing layers, which can give the illusion of a micro-bob when the lower portion of hair is pulled back. Think of that section like the bell-shaped body of a jellyfish. Longer layers are left blunt and long to replicate tentacles.
On Miley, Bob blow-dried each section using a flat Mason Pearson brush, before spritzing medium-hold hairspray through the short and long sections to boost shine. Hair oil was the finishing touch to leave locks glossy and nourished.
Elsewhere on the red carpet, Lady Gaga debuted her blunt jellyfish cut, dyed jet black and flanked by baby bangs and bleached brows.
The dynamic new look generated plenty of hype around her upcoming album, Mayhem, coming next month.
Hairstylist Frederic Aspiras worked with Sebastian Professional products to styled the different layers of Gaga’s jellyfish cut, reaching for products to create unparalleled shine and smooth flyaways up top, while sealing and protecting ends as they cascaded towards her waist.
Try the trend: Make like Miley with this cost-savvy hair range available from Amazon, including the Nexxus Repair & Nourish Ultra Lightweight Hair Oil, $13.
Colour Trend: Rich Espresso
Look no further than your morning coffee for plenty of hair colour inspiration this season, with both Olivia Rodrigo and Madison Beer sporting shades akin to a fresh brew.
By definition, espresso is a coffee-coloured hair hue which includes reflects of both brown and black to create a cool-toned universal shade.
It’s bolder than traditional brunette shades, but softer than jet black, making it the perfect middle ground as we inch towards the cooler months. Rich espresso hair looks even more dynamic when coupled with a hair gloss, achieving that glassy effect.
Olivia Rodrigo and Madison Beer had their rich espresso tresses styled with centre parts and bouncy, loose waves, finished with a generous dose of shine spray.
Try the trend: Keep hair colour fresh with a conditioning mask designed to enhance cool tones, like the Wella Professional Color Fresh Mask in the shade Cool Espresso, $44, which helps to refresh colour in between salon visits and leave hair with a glossy shine.
Baby Braids
Best New Artist winner Doechii has long been synonymous with artful, braided styles, but this is one hairstyle that won’t be forgotten in a hurry.
Hairstylist Malcom Marquez coupled braids with finger waves a la Josephine Baker, with the front section of Doechii’s hair styled and set into finger waves on either side of her head, accented by face-framing micro-braids.
The rest of the rapper’s hair was braided into interlaced corn rows, which flowed over her shoulders and down to her waist.
Marquez worked with a suite of Miracle Styling Products, including a setting foam, curl gel, heat protectant and nourishing oil to prioritise hair and scalp health as Doechii switched up her beauty looks throughout the night.
Try the trend: Thank God It’s Natural Miracle Styling Ayurvedic Hair & Scalp Oil, $22, is designed to restore health to both hair and scalp thanks to the addition of neem oil and brahmi powder to help calm and condition.
