The Auckland beauty scene is getting a double dose of colour with the opening of two new nail bars where high-end nail art will be a feature. Pop Nails’ founder Imogene Bevan says light, dusty shades and metallics (pictured above right) and studding are among trends she is showcasing in a winter collection of nail looks.

These will be on offer at Dry & Tea City Works, where her nail bar opens tomorrow. Bevan has a fashion sensibility and is developing alliances with designers, after moving into nails several years ago from film and television. She says she saw a gap in the market for quality, affordable nail art and loved the concept of express services, making hers an ideal fit with the blowdry bar.

Nail specialist Leah Light is also branching out, having opened a boutique-style studio in Parnell last week (above). With a track record of working on celebrity clients, Light is in demand and says she had been looking for a more central site to save regulars driving across town to her west Auckland base.

The nail art trend is still going strong, she says. Women love getting customised service, such as a polish matched to a special occasion dress. “Celebrities get that, but it’s so missing for everyday women.”

Light's new studio at 2A Cowie St, will also offer other beauty services. See leahlight.co.nz for more.

Pop Nails plans to add new collections, including for ball season, to its menu, with a trend preview being soft blues and pinks, marbling and rose-gold detailing. For bar services, see dryandtea.com.
