Every day, nine New Zealand women are diagnosed with breast cancer.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer for Kiwi women, and the third most common cancer overall.
Staggeringly, a survey conducted by Colmar Brunton reveal that 1 in 6 Kiwi women never check their breasts for changes, with "not knowing how" cited as the number one reason why women under 45 don't self-check. 37 per cent of women under 45 were unsure of what to look for when self-checking, compared to only 8 per cent of women aged 45 and over. 12 per cent of women under 45 could correctly name all the signs and symptoms of breast cancer. October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month in New Zealand, with a number of nationwide initiatives aiming to help change these statistics by educating women around the country about breast cancer.
