The family of slain Auckland man Shalvin Prasad say his death has hit them like a "trainwreck'' and have urged anyone who knows anything about his murder to contact police. A large fire has broken out in the Auckland suburb of Glen Innes. The fire was at the AHI Roofing plant on Felton Mathew Avenue and reportedly started around 11am. Witness, Alan Parker, watched the building burst into flames. "For a long time there was thick, black smoke and flames rising probably six metres up in the air, but now the Fire Brigade seem to have it under control."
The ASB Building on Jellicoe Street is already turning heads on the waterfront and this week a large reflector device in the shape of a sail was installed on the top of it. The reflector is to act as an important part of the buildings ventilation and lighting system and was designed using cutting-edge yacht design technology. It is an integrated part of the massive funnel installed in May 2012 that forms part of the passive ventilation and natural lighting system under the main vent on the top of the building. Speaking to media after inspecting the damage at Hobsonville today, Prime Minister John Key passed on his condolences to the families of the three men killed. He said the loss of life could have been far greater, considering the number of people working in the open when the tornado struck.
The recovery is underway after a series of deadly tornadoes ripped through Hobsonville, leaving a trail of destruction. Three people died in the storm, which also damaged about 150 houses, nzherald.co.nz went amongst the clean up to hear the stories of survival.

The Hobbit stars met the media in a press conference before it's World Premiere, Sir Peter Jackson had press from around the world laughing as he revealed how Barry Humphries nabbed the part. Comedy is something that's more evident in JRR Tolkien's The Hobbit, which was written as a children's book, unlike the much darker tale of The Lord of the Rings. Jackson said the lightness and the comedy in The Hobbit was a joy.
The Tony award winning production War Horse showed off it's star in Auckland, with actors working the dynamic puppet of the lead horse... both the public and media got a sense of the drama and emotion created by this theatrical production. War Horse will premiere in Auckland on August 20 2013.
