The Flockton Basin area, flooded three times in less than two months, is again under water in many places.

It took longer than many predicted but Kiwi heavyweight Joseph Parker has defeated Brazilian Marcelo Luiz Nascimento with a seventh-round TKO win in Oberhausen. A flurry of blows in the seventh saw referee Brad Vocale stop the fight, although Nascimento protested the decision. Parker was the dominant figure throughout the bout and won the interim WBA PABA heavyweight championship for his efforts.

Lieutenant Colonel John Milbanke Masters was named as New Zealand's inaugural Anzac of the Year, an award recognising comradeship, courage and commitment. It was recognition of a life in which Masters put others first, from life-saving deeds on the battlefields of Indonesia, which earned him a Military Cross, to campaigning for the rights of Vietnam War veterans exposed to the defoliant Agent Orange.
New Zealand Rugby and the Blues have today agreed and confirmed the terms of Benji Marshall's release from his Investec Super Rugby contract. Following Friday night’s match against the Hurricanes, Blues head coach Sir John Kirwan and Benji Marshall had some frank and honest discussions and mutually agreed the best path forward was for Marshall to return to rugby league. 29-year-old Marshall said while his on-field performance had not lived up to his expectations, he felt he had become a better player and person for the experience.

Widespread flooding, heavy rainfall and gale force winds caused road closures, power outages and slips around New Zealand on April 17 and 18. The rough conditions have been fuelled by ex-Cyclone Ita with the tail end of the tropical storm hitting the islands overnight on April 17. The winds blew down a large tree in Nelson, on the north tip of the South Island, which was captured on camera by YouTube/Derek Sivers.
