Zane Lowe to be DJ on Apple's station

Apple declared war on Spotify, Tidal and Pandora, as it unveiled its new music streaming service. Apple Music, available to users of iPhones and iPads on June 30 in 100 countries, includes a radio station with personalized playlists and a choice from millions of songs on demand. Tim Cook described Apple's new service as "the next chapter in music". It will include Beats 1, a 24-hour radio station featuring Kiwi DJ and former Radio 1 presenter Zane Lowe. Among those on the Safety Safari video are past and present world champions, New Zealand's best surfers, a big wave legend and two of the world's most popular women surfers on social media. It was filmed at Malibu, California, Australia's Gold Coast and at Raglan and Piha in this country in mid-March and the film crew and the nine surfers had to work around Cyclone Pam to find suitable waves here and across the Tasman.

The mood was grim as Solid Energy employees filed out of the NBS Theatre in Westport today, just minutes after finding out the company was cutting 151 jobs, plus up to 15 contracting jobs - from its Stockton mine.
