On a sunny Friday afternoon in early October, Google dropped a bombshell on the New Zealand media industry. It warned that if the Fair Digital News Bargaining Bill passed, imposing a “link tax” on news articles shared on Google, the platform would respond by dropping New Zealand news content from Google’s products – including search.
