Two unrelated scrub fires, one north of Balclutha (above) and one north of Waipahi, were dealt with by local brigades yesterday.
Fire Service southern communications shift manager Andrew Norris said several units attended the fire 2km from Waipahi about 4pm.
The blaze was extinguished, but a fire crew was to remain on site overnight to monitor the area.
The second fire, about 2km north of Balclutha about 6.20pm in a layby, was being treated as suspicious.
The road was briefly closed by police until the fire was put out, by a single unit and one tanker, he said.
