Welcome to InBox, where we attempt to answer your internet questions.
Bev had a pre-Christmas crash! Her Pentium 133, running Windows 95, had to be reinstalled. Her techy friend said it needed no antivirus software as it would cause as many problems as a virus. She asks if this is correct.
What he is referring to, Bev, is the fact that your machine is old and will substantially slow down with the latest antivirus software demands.
Look seriously at updating your main box and software. This way you will be able to run all the programs available, without worrying about resource demands. If you don't receive e-mail attachments and never get software from friends, you may not need protection. But that's taking a big gamble.
Wayne also runs an old Pentium 133 with Windows 95, and asks if it is capable of running Internet Explorer 6.
Unfortunately, Wayne, a Win95 version of IE6 is not available. Microsoft has decided that support for the old operating system of Win95 is at an end.
Microsoft's new versions of Windows has done away with the old MS DOS-based design, so continued support different base designnte was uneconomic.
Carolyn asks: Can I use Incredimail to check my Yahoo e-mail account?
Yes, Carolyn, the step-by-step Incredimail/Yahoo instructions are here.
Forbidden! You don't have permission to access on this server," stated Christmas Graphics when Rose tried to go there early last month. She can't understand why the site has locked her out.
Don't take it personally, Rose. A quick e-mail to webmaster@christmas-graphics.com resulted in a rapid reply from Joshua that the site had been inundated by users at that busy time of year. The hosting service decided to move it, and therefore made it unreachable for a few days.
Defrag takes more than 13 hours and Graham is frustrated.
If you have Norton Utilities, use speed disk, not defrag. The two programs are incompatible and won't co-exist!
Alternately, if it is due to other programs accessing the drive, try downloading this registry entry - it will run defrag once only, before any other programs, on start-up.
