McAfee antivirus Update has failed for Trevor. He's angry with his internet provider ihug, as Xtra users have no problem.
Callum from the ihug Helpdesk has found the reason. It's a known problem that McAfee doesn't like "transparent proxies" and refuses the update. An e-mail to McAfee requesting the update server details for ihug's support team, will allow the updates to recommence when the details are provided.
Trevor also asks: "Why pay for ihug's i-Spy product when McAfee sells its product with unlimited updates?"
i-Spy is a server-based virus scanner that will remove viruses from e-mail before they get to your machine, Trevor. Being server-based, they stay up-to-date without your input.
McAfee and Norton officially provide a one-year update subscription. After that year, you are required to buy another year (http://mcafeestore.beyond.com/Product/0,1057,3-18-SN107919,00.html).
It's worth noting that ihug's i-Spy
costs from $30 a year and McAfee costs $US49.95 a year.
CapsOff for Macs has disappeared from its web address. A Mac OS upgrade to v9.2 forced Peter to replace this handy program that allows the F3 caps shortcut on a Mac.
A quick search for Redpoint Software, the CapsOff supplier, provides the answer.
"Outlook Express Folder Sync Window Class" is a message that totally confuses David.
It's a symptom of the W32.badtrans.b@mm virus which ran wild in many local machines late last year, David. See Symantec's page, where you can read all about that specific virus and obtain a fix.
TAPISRV errors and connection failures seem to be associated problems that David is battling.
You have problems in your Haynes type modem software or drivers, David. Go to your modem manufacturer's site for the updates.
John's Norton Antivirus has quarantined several files and he would like to know what to do with them.
If you don't think they are important, delete them, John. Quarantine is only for files that have no current fixes available. If you don't need them, kill them.
