"Greetings from the Bay of Islands," says baffled Napster-user Michael Miller. "I went to http://gnutella.wego.com - but I couldn't figure out what to do there! Is it a site that lets me share and download .mp3 files? If so, what do I need to do?"
You need to click on "download now," Mike, which will take you without further ado to www.gnutelliums.com, where you will be offered a whole range of Gnutella-like peer-to-peer clients for different platforms. Download the one you fancy and then follow instructions using as much common sense as is available. You also ask about a new proxy I mentioned last week. It was called CatNap, and it now appears to have vanished, as often happens on the web.

Lucky Jill Thompson is planning a winter getaway: "I am travelling overseas shortly and want to make a printout of my e-mail address book to take with me. Is it possible to print this, and if so how?"
In Outlook Express, Jill, click on the address book icon in the bar at the top of the page (or click it in start/programs/accessories), then go file/print/print range/all/memo, which is a nice format. Easy-peasy.

Neville Lake has scanning woes: "I bought a new scanner operating through the parallel port. The old scanner had four modes of scanning, the new one only two, colour and grey-scale. Unfortunately these are the two modes my old OCR program [optical character recognition, used for text documents] cannot handle. Do you happen to know of any OCR program that will recognise items scanned using grey-scale mode?"
I think most OCR software would handle grey-scale these days, Neville, but Caere's OmniPage Pro (probably the leader in the field) certainly does.
