The display sits atop a round base which has a 20 degree swivel range to combat glare. The VX2452mh is also wall mountable via its four VESA-compliant mounting holes.
Tucked away on its rear are VGA, DVI, and HDMI ports. There's also audio input and output sockets that drive a pair of integrated 2 watt speakers.
A USB hub and DisplayPort inputs are absent, but at this price point that's to be expected.
In Use
The VX2452mh offers a range of picture tweaking options. The usual brightness and contrast, and choice of temperature settings are all present. There's manual settings for Dynamic Contrast and Eco Mode plus several audio adjustments.
Specs-wise, The VX2452 is a 24" LCD screen that makes use of twisted nematic (TN) display technologies. It has a resolution of 1,920-by-1,080 and a brightness rating of 300 cd/m2.
Performance
Hooking the VX2452mh up to a PC was pretty straightforward. My Acer S3's spare HDMI port provided a seamless set up and I was good to go once I'd managed to find a spare HDMI cable (which wasn't bundled).
In use the VX2452mh's two-millisecond pixel response time made for some pretty smooth gaming. There was no noticeable streaking or other annoying artefacts to detract from gaming.
Picture-wise, the VX2452mh also dished up some pretty sharp images. It did struggle to differentiate between variations of dark shades and light shades. The upshot of this is that some in game detail might not be visible.
I also noticed that when viewed from a 45 degree angle some colour shifting and blurring was apparent. This isn't a huge issue as the VX2452mh is a PC screen and will be viewed head on.
The VX2452mh's flicker-free technology also impressed. Usually after extended bouts of PC time, my eyes tend to feel pretty wretched, but with the VX2452mh I found my eyes feeling far less fatigued. Its lack of flicker makes for an on-screen image that almost appears to be painted on the screen.
Verdict
The VX2452mh mightn't sport lots of bells and whistles, but then again it is a $299 PC screen that is capable of displaying 1080p content.
Its design is also easy on the eye. This said it did struggle to differentiate between darker and lighter shades. Extreme viewing angles were also tricky. None of these issues are deal breakers and considering it can be found for anything up to $279 it's a great option for PC gamers on a budget.
