There was plenty of music, laughter and fun at Tūtaki Youth Inc last Thursday night, when some of the pupils from Avon Primary School invited their families and whanau to see what they had been learning over the past two terms.
The pupils had been working with the team at Tūtaki Youth Inc on the ROaV programme. ROaV stands for Relationships, Opportunities and Values and is a programme designed to address issues around bullying as well as instilling positive values in young people.
The celebration evening was a way for pupils to share their learning with their families and they worked in groups to present some of what they had learned to the audience. Using words, music and movement, the pupils showed what they had learned about preventing bullying, being yourself and healthy relationships.
Marshall Roberts (11) says he enjoyed participating in the programme and had learned "heaps" during the two terms. The key lesson for him, he says, is "there are always people to support you".
His friend Josh Kearns (10) says he enjoyed working with the team at Tūtaki Youth Inc. "Whenever you fall, they catch you."
