Inglewood couple Cushla Glynn and Donald Lindsay are looking forward to participating in the Deaf Games that are being held in New Plymouth over Labour Weekend.
Being the secretary of the organising committee for the event has meant "a lot of barbecues to raise money for this", says Cushla.
This is the not the first time the event has been held in the Taranaki region - the games were hosted here in 2005. It will, however, be the last time following the decision for the games in future to only be hosted by the larger cities of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
Donald and Cushla will be playing for the Central team during the games. Cushla explains: "Every two years on Labour Weekend, we hold the Deaf Games with teams from the North, Central and the South competing in lots of sports."
This year, these include eight ball pool, darts, outdoor bowls, lawn bowling and ten pin bowling.
