The past and the future come together at Midhirst School, with new school gates representing both.
The new gates were formally unveiled last Thursday, in front of current and past pupils whānau and members of the wider Midhirst community.
The unveiling started with karakia and waiata. The gates were designed by school pupils and principal Graham Sands says he is proud of the student council for the work and thought put in.
"It is very pleasing to see the finished product. This has been a long journey driven by the children. I believe all the children's ideas have been captured in the design gates. Many of our ex families have donate money to make this happen."
He says student council members have a good understanding of the gates and their meaning.
