This Thursday, more than 500 American cars will be stopping along Broadway as Taranaki celebrates 'Americarna'.
This is a regional event co-ordinated and organised by the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce, from Thursday February 22 until Sunday February 25.
The event will celebrate every aspect of US culture, ranging from classic cars, movies, music, comic books, super heroes, the Wild West, sports and marching bands. Americarna is a four-day fun-fest of live music, competition and events for the entire family.
Soak up the sounds of jazz, bluegrass, country rock, rock n' roll, marvel at an awesome array of muscle cars, hot rods, street cars, pick-ups, custom choppers and around 50 Harley Davidson motorbikes.
The pride of the pack is a prestigious Pebble Beach 1927 Track T Roadster shipped out directly from the United States.
Three other classic cars have also made the journey across the Pacific Ocean.
Indulge your appetite with the true diner experience - hot dogs, BBQ ribs, cajun, creole and, of course, apple pie.
On Thursday, the American cars will turn State Highway 3 into Route 66 as more than 500 cars cruise into Stratford from 9.30am, Hawera after lunch and Opunake on Friday, before stopping in New Plymouth for a country fair and street parade.
At 11.30am the vehicles will depart Stratford after a street parade.
The road between the two roundabouts on Broadway will be closed from 8am to 12 noon, with plenty of parking available at the War Memorial Centre and Portia Street. Locals are invited to come and spend the morning experiencing Americarna.
Local businesses will be supporting the event with a market day and will have sale tables outside their stores. Businesses can also participate in the 'Best Dressed Window' competition.
In the souvenir programme, residents will find an entry form to go into the draw to win a mint condition 1979 Corvette Stingray.
