New Zealand tennis No1 Marina Erakovic has won her second US$25,000 tournament in consecutive weeks in Australia. The Auckland 19-year-old again beat Australian Sophie Ferguson in a final - 6-4, 6-3 - at the Gympie event in Queensland. A week earlier Erakovic beat Ferguson at Rockhampton.
Erakovic has a WTA singles ranking of 152 and 216 in doubles. Meanwhile, Leanne Baker and American Julie Ditty were beaten 6-2, 6-0 in the doubles final of the US$50,000 event at Lawrenceville, Georgia, by Canadian Stephanie Dubois and Russian Alisa Kleybanova.
At the US$15,000 Futures at Mansfield, Texas, New Zealander Michael Venus won his first ITF doubles title, teaming with American Danny Bryan to beat Australian wildcards Daniel Byres and Robert Mckenzie 6-1, 6-3.
