The men's singles final of the Auckland Championships will be a battle between former New Zealand Davis Cup player Teo Susnjak and Canterbury's Dan King-Turner.
Susnjak, 27, won the championships in the mid 90s and although not playing pro tennis anymore, he has been in top form in Chelsea Cup and Caro Bowl for West End, who won the title a fortnight ago.
The 20-year-old King-Turner, seeded third, won his semifinal easily over fifth-seed Jacob Olsen in straight sets in Glen Innes.
But the other semi was not as straightforward.
Top-seed Adam Thompson won the first set 6-2 over Susnjak in windy conditions.
Thompson then dropped the second set 6-3 and was trailing 3-0 in the third when he walked out of the match citing adverse comments from the next court where the men's doubles final had started.
The win left Susnjak a little bemused, but keen to win a second final, which will be played at 5.30pm.
The top two seeds will meet in the women's final, with Leanne Baker taking little time to overcome third-seed Niki Tippins, dropping just three games.
Baker faces top-seed Shelley Stephens after the latter struggled to beat fourth-seed Tracey O'Connor in three sets.
Men's semifinals: 3-D. King-Turner (Canterbury) bt 5-J. Olsen (Auckland) 6-2 6-3, 4-T. Susnjak (Auckland) bt 1-A. Thompson (Auckland) 2-6 6-3 3-0 default.
Women's semifinals: 1-S. Stephens (Nth Harbour) bt 4-T. O'Connor 6-2 2-6 6-2, 2-L. Baker (Waikato) bt 3-N. Tippins (Canterbury) 6-3 6-0.
