The heat goes on the quarter-finalists today at the New Zealand residential championships.
Places in international events are still open, adding to the lure of the prizemoney and title at the $14,000 event.
The big upset in the men's third round at the North Harbour Tennis Centre yesterday came when sixth seed G.D. Jones of Auckland was up-ended by 18s champion Daniel King-Turner, of Canterbury, 6-3, 6-4.
The win puts the unseeded King-Turner, 18, on a roll of eight wins in a row.
He will now play fourth-seeded Aucklander Lee Radovanovich in what could be a tough encounter for the former Davis Cup squad member.
Among other men's quarter-finals, top seed and local Simon Rea - who had to come from a set down to beat Canterbury's James Spence - will play Adam McNeil.
McNeil overcame close rival Nick Lane 4-6, 7-6, 7-5 after being down 1-5 in the second set.
Alistair Hunt plays Jacob Olsen, and second seed Robbie Cheyne, of Wellington, easily overcame Auckland's Kiril Tcherveniachki.
The women's quarter-finals are with the seedings.
Tracy O'Connor outlasted fellow Aucklander and hard-hitter Lucy Cole, and Marina Erakovic was pushed in the first set by Nicola Kaiwai but won 6-4, 6-1.
Erakovic will play third seed Ilke Gers in the quarter-finals.
At the top end of the draw, Shelley Stephens strolled into the last eight without dropping a game to Marina Erakovic's older sister, Julia.
