Almost all New Zealand's best players have played at some time in the Caro Bowl, which has been the symbol of Auckland inter-club supremacy since 1919.
The rosebowl was donated by the family of Maurice S. Caro, who was killed in action at the first Battle of the Somme in 1916. Caro was a talented sportsman and avid tennis player.
The Caro Bowl was first contested in 1919.
The Parnell club, based at the Auckland Domain, has dominated the past 10 years.
Apart from the 1996-97 season when Remuera got up to beat Parnell, the powerful Parnell team have won the men's competition nine times.
Parnell, Remuera, West End and Belvedere appear the most likely contenders this season, which starts tonight, although there will be some interest in Royal Oak, who have Brett Steven as their No 1.
Parnell's women have been just as dominant, losing only two finals in the past 10 years.
With back-up indoor courts available, there will be no cancellations which will allow the competition to end with scheduled semifinals (November 21-22) and finals (November 28-29).
