New Zealand has been crushed 3-nil by top seed Japan in Kuala Lumpur to end all hope of qualifying for the World Group Two playoff in the Fed Cup.
Kiwi number two Marina Erakovic has been beaten for the fifth straight time by Ayumi Morita, going down 2-6, 7-6, 6-1 while Sacha Jones proved no match for Kimiko Date -Krumm, losing 6-2, 6-4.
Erakovic and Jones then lost the doubles in straight sets.
The loss follows a 2-1 defeat by Korea and they finish the tournament against Indonesia today.
