New Zealand were 2-0 down after the opening day of their Davis Cup Asia/Oceania zone group one second round playoff tie against Indonesia in Jakarta yesterday.
Wellington's Matt Prentice lost the first match against the Indonesian No 1 Febi Widhiyanto in straight sets in his first singles match for New Zealand.
Widhiyanto was too consistent while Prentice played a couple of loose points when it counted to lose the match 3-6, 2-6, 4-6.
New Zealand No 1 Mark Nielsen had a dramatic match against Indonesia's Prima Simpatiaji, who the visitors rate highly.
Nielsen was beaten 7-5, 6-7 (7-9), 1-6, 1-6. The first set took 50 minutes in hot temperatures.
