The New Zealand women's Federation Cup team will play Indonesia in the semifinals of Asia/Oceania zone in New Delhi late tonight (early tomorrow morning NZ time). The Kiwi team trailed 0-2 against Thailand after the singles with the doubles played a day later after storms disrupted play.
Marina Erakovic, 16, who plays on the world junior circuit and has yet to gain a senior WTA ranking, had lost her singles match to world ranked 234th Suchanun Viratprasert 7-5 3-6 9-7.
In the other singles match Eden Marama (333rd) was beaten by former top 20 player Tamarine Tanasugarn, now ranked 56th, 6-3 6-3.
Shelley Stephens and Paula Marama won the delayed doubles match over Montinee Tangphong and Napaporn Tongsalee 6-4 6-3 to give the Kiwis a point out of the overall clash.
Even without the doubles victory the New Zealand team had made the semifinals to play Indonesia, the top team from the other group.
