KEY POINTS:
New Zealand rebounded from an opening loss to win their second tie at the Fed Cup Asia-Oceania zone women's tennis playoffs in Thailand yesterday.
New Zealand won their group one encounter against India 2-1, after losing to Australia in Bangkok on Wednesday.
Their hopes did not look bright when Sacha Jones, forced to retire from her singles match against Australia due to cramp, lost 7-6 1-6 4-6 to Isha Lakhani.
The team's No 1 Marina Erakovic revived their fortunes by beating Sunitha Rao 6-0 7-6 then combined with Leanne Baker to win the doubles 6-2 6-2 over Lakhani and Shikha Uberoi.
Meanwhile, the Australians suffered a shock 2-1 loss to Indonesia on Thursday.
The Australians were missing the injured Alicia Molik and Samantha Stosur, as well as the retired Nicole Pratt, but still should have had too much experience for the Indonesians.
Instead, Indonesia claimed both singles rubbers to grab an unassailable lead in the tie.
Called up to replace the injured Molik, who picked up a calf injury during the win over New Zealand, 17-year-old Jessica Moore made her Fed Cup debut.
Moore proved no match for Ayu Fani Damayanti, losing 6-3 6-4.
In the second rubber, Sandy Gumulya edged out Casey Dellacqua 7-6 (7-5) 7-6 (7-5) in a tightly fought contest.
Dellacqua and Rennae Stubbs then combined to win the doubles rubber 6-2 6-1 against Lavinia Tananta and Vivien Silfany and score Australia's only point for the tie.
