New Zealand men's tennis No 1 Mark Nielsen won the singles title at the US$10,000 ($13,900) Futures tournament at Shizuoka, Japan yesterday.
The 27-year-old North Harbour player, who was seeded fourth, beat Japanese third seed Go Soeda 6-0 4-6 6-3 to take out his second career Futures singles title.
The final was Nielsen's 11th of his career at Futures level and he has finished as a beaten finalist nine times.
Nielsen, who was currently ranked at 532, should improve his ranking by around 60 places.
