Mark Nielsen won the doubles at the US$10,000 Futures tennis tournament in Hokuto, Japan, teaming up with David Martin, of the United States, to beat Chinese top seeds Hao Lu and Xin-Yuan Yu 6-4, 6-1 in the final.
In the singles, Adam Thompson, of Auckland, reached the semifinals after a second-round win over fifth-seed Toshiaki Sakai, of Japan, 7-5, 7-5 and then beat Japanese wildcard Hyung-Tae Kwon 6-4, 6-2 in the quarters.
Thompson was then eliminated by Japanese top seed Satoshi Iwabuchi 6-1, 7-5. Nielsen was beaten in the second round of the singles.
