Marina Erakovic and Sacha Jones have both scored three-hour-long wins over their opponents to reach the semifinals of the US$25,000 Challenger at Vigo, Spain, in which they will play each other.
Nineteen-year-old Erakovic beat fifth-seed Melanie South (Britain) 7-6, 6-7, 6-2, while 16-year-old Jones won 6-2, 6-7, 6-4 over Australian Emily Hewson. Jones was up 5-0 in the second set and had three match points but held her nerve in the third set to take the match. Erakovic and Jones have played once in singles in professional tennis, with the former winning easily in Australia last year.
Erakovic and South are through to the semis of the doubles together, after beating the Spanish pair of Rebeca Bou-Nogueiro and Lucia Sainz-Pelegri 7-5 6-2.
At the US$15,000 Futures at Ilkley, Yorkshire, Kiwi No 1 Dan King-Turner is into his second consecutive Futures final after defeating the top seed, Robert Smeets, 7-6(5), 3-6, 7-6(3). He will play second seed Adam Feeney of Australia in the final.
The Kiwi is also in the doubles final, with Frenchman Fabrice Martin, against Ian Flanagan (Britain) and Brydon Klein (Australia).
