Canterbury's Dan King-Turner has had a bad week.
On Tuesday night he lost the final of the Auckland tennis championships to Teo Susnjak in straight sets. Yesterday, he lost to a veteran of Auckland tennis, Andrew Turner, in three sets in the third round of the New Zealand Residential championships on the North Shore.
King-Turner, 20, was seeded sixth for what is effectively the national senior tournament but Turner won 4-4, 6-2, 7-6 (2) and ended his opponent's tilt at the title he finished runner-up in last year.
Turner, 31, coaches on the North Shore and although a Caro Bowl and Chelsea Cup player, he is regarded as tough to beat.
He will now play second seed Rubin Statham, 17, who reserved his place in the quarters with a win over 15th seed James Pilbro of Auckland. Top seed Adam Thompson had a solid win over North Harbour's Jeffrey Birse and will now face ninth seed Justin Megraw.
The other upset saw 12th seed Jonathan Hooper out-hit eighth seed Kiril Tcherveniachki 7-5, 6-3 to now face fourth seed Matt Prentice.
In the other quarter, third seed Lee Radovanovich will play 10th seed Jacob Olsen.
The women's quarters will feature top seed Shelley Stephens against national 18s champ Sacha Jones while second seed Leanne Baker plays Ellen Barry.
